Featuring the largest collection of land mammal specimens in the Southeast, the museum displays everything from small raccoons to huge buffalo in galleries ranging from the Hall of Earth and Man to the Hall of North Carolina Natural History. The museum is located in Gastonia, 15 miles west of Charlotte. The museum also features a planetarium and outdoor re-creations of communities including a Catawba Indian village, a Stone Age heritage site and an 18th-century back-country farm.
